I’d been trying to capture a dragon fly with some dramatic side lighting for a few days during lunch. I had my wireless flash setup to the left of a stem where I noticed the insects often perching. Then, I basically waited, with camera on tripod. But, of course none landed on the stem I had picked… but on this one instead. As time was running out for my break, I took the camera in one hand, and held it outstretched – so as not to frighten the creature away. But, I couldn’t frame or focus the shot like this… so I linked the camera to my smartphone, & did the focus, composing, and firing there. Not ideal, but it worked.
