This image from my Project 366 collection took awhile to capture. It’s a single exposure with no special effects or compositing. Only some minimal contrast/brightness adjustments.
I set up a wireless flash on each side, one red the other blue, and propped up a small led flashlight pointing at the area. I prefocused on my target area, and began spinning the coin, trying to get it to cross my target area.
The bright flash “froze” the spinning coin, while the slow shutter speed captured the spinning motion, illuminated by just the flashlight. The purple dots are from some white scraps of paper out of focus in the background – purple due to the mix of red and blue gels over the speedlites.
